IC Information
Name: Mabel Pines
Canon: Gravity Falls
Gender: Female
Age: 12, almost 13
History: Wiki Link!! I'll be taking Mabel from the episode Sock Opera, where instead of Dipper tipping her off to Bill possessing his body, she'll confront him thinking he's Dipper, and will end up getting pushed off the walkway.
Personality:
Mabel is fun, goofy, and optimistic. She almost always has a smile on her face and a hopeful outlook on the many crazy situations her and her brother get into. It's just who she is. She's the fun sibling, the one always up to some ridiculous antic or other. She bedazzled her face at one point, and is always wearing a different, ridiculous sweater. She's not one to let life get her down, and always puts all her effort into what she does, no matter what it is. It makes her look a little like an airhead at times, because she really rolls with the punches, but there's a lot more to her than plain old sillines.
For one, Mabel is very honest and caring. She doesn't like to lie, and she doesn't like to hurt someone's feelings unless she can help it (or their a huge jerk and/or creep like Lil' Gideon.) Mabel likes to make sure that the people around her are happy, and will make it her business to cheer them up if they aren't. Which is also a failing point for her. She thinks she can fix any problem, be it with romance or good cheer. This comes back to bite her and Dipper in the episode "Love God" because when she tries to cheer Robbie up by playing match maker, she almost destroys the friend group he was a part of.
She also values honesty a great deal. She's a terrible liar herself, but she also sees lying as a bad thing all of the time. She tries to impose this view on Stan by giving him teeth that make him tell the truth, but that backfires big time, too, and she has to grudgingly agree that maybe complete 100% honesty isn't a good thing, in some cases. These little blunders don't really get her down, though. She learns and grows from them, and brushes the negativity off by looking forward to the good things to come.
This is also because she's very confident in herself. She has amazing self-esteem, really. She knows she's cute, she knows she's talented. Nintey no doubts in those respects. So when she goes into a project, she has no doubt that she will succeed. And even if she doesn't, at least she had fun trying! She can become somewhat insecure if she's picked on straight out by someone, like when her rival Pacifica Northwest beats her at mini golf and Mabel challenges her to a midnight rematch, but immediately afterwords is seen wallowing in self-doubt, because Pacifica beat her at something she knew she was amazing at. During these moments, though, when she's not at the top of her game, Mabel is quick to come back. She might doubt herself occasionally, but it never gets her down for long.
Another failing related to this, is Mabel's inability to say no to a lot of things. It's not so much that she won't say no when she has to, but she definitely doesn't like to disappoint people. This makes her extremely susceptible to peer pressure. The biggest example of this is the whole mess with Lil' Gideon. Mabel liked him! He was cute, and liked makeovers, and fun. She didn't want to lose that friendship, so instead of telling him she wouldn't go out on a date, she ended up agreeing. It didn't end there, though. She kept going out with him, because she didn't want to let down all the people that were around when Gideon asked her out for the second time. It spiraled so far out of control, Mabel had Dipper cut things off with Gideon, instead of going out and doing so herself. She gets caught up in people's expectations, and her desire to keep everyone happy kind of gets in the way of her own well being, and messes things up more than it fixes things.
Mabel is also easily distracted by things, and will run off to go do them no matter what she might have been doing before. She hurries off to go talk to Gabe when she was supposed to be helping Dipper, and hurries off to win Waddles when she finds out there's a pig winning contest at the mystery shack's fair. Not only that, but she's also incredibly impulsive. She has a tendency to act without thinking things through, or weighing the consequences. She eats a crap load of Smile Dip, when it had been banned in America and for good reason, and when she and Dipper get challenged to a death game, she very nearly has the loser executed. Not because she wanted him to die, she just has a tendency to get really caught up in what she's doing.
She can also get really caught up in her own wants and needs, which often puts her brother in really unfortunate situations. She cares about him, and she doesn't mean to leave him high and dry when he needs help, she just gets really wrapped up in her own personal world, and forgets about the rest without really meaning to. She puts her own needs above Dippers, and even her friends. When Dipper needs help figuring out the password for a computer, she leaves him to his own devices and tries to get a boy to like her. When she and her friends save a boy band, she doesn't let them go at first and tries to keep them for herself. It makes her come off as selfish, and she can be! But she's also willing to learn from her mistakes when she realizes she's making them, and will always do the right thing in the end, even if it means she has to blow up her sock puppet rock opera in the process.
Speaking of; one of the things that gets Mabel into the most trouble is boys. She loves boys. She wants to have a rocking summer romance! Boys!!! But this boy obsession gets her into a lot of sticky situations. In the first episode, she jumps at the chance to date some random guy she met, only to discover he was actually a bunch of Gnomes looking for a queen. That's not the only boy trouble she has, either. It happens again and again. She falls for someone, and ends up getting up to some really wacky and/or dangerous hijinks in the process. Mabel believes in love, though. Not just for herself, but for everyone around her. She jumps at the chance to play matchmaker, even if the result aren't always the best.
Mabel is incredibly creative. She loves arts and crafts, be it knitting or drawing. She might not know all the technicalities that go into certain crafts--she doesn't know the difference between a single stitch and a cross stitch--but she just likes to make things. She cares more about having fun than making things perfect, and doesn't really care if things turn out a little less than perfect. She messes up on one of her sweaters, and she points it out herself, but it doesn't phase her one bit.
Lastly, we can't talk about Mabel unless we talk about Dipper, too. The twins are almost complete opposites. Where Dipper is really serious, Mabel is all fun and games, but this is a dynamic that works. They balance each other out, and are always there for each other, even if they might fight and get into arguments on occasion. If one is in trouble, the other will be there for support. Dipper grounds Mabel when she gets too crazy or involved in things, and Mabel is there to make sure Dipper doesn't get too caught up in the technicalities. Petty arguments happen, sure, but they can always count on each other to be there when they really need it.

It was the intermission, and things were going great! The whole sock opera was going off without a hitch. Mabel just needed to grab a drink of water in her dressing room and prepare herself for the second half of the show. And the big finale! People would be in shock and awe, and Gabe would fall madly in love with her. Her summer romance would finally get going, and then she would help Dipper with his dumb password stuff, of course. Yep, everything was going according to plan.
Except, on her way to her dressing room she saw Dipper heading up the steps, to the metal walkways above the stage. He was supposed to be in the wings, getting ready for the big wedding scene. So what was he doing, going up there? “Dipper?” She called after him, but he didn't hear her, so she followed him up the stairs. Did he ask to play the reverend just so he could get the journal back from her?
...Haha, nah. He wouldn't do that.
But when she crept around the corner, Mabel saw him pulling the wooden cake up to the walkway. He actually was grabbing the journal. So, what, did that mean he was just going to up and leave, regardless of how things turned out for Mabel? That thought rubbed her the wrong way. Yeah, she probably should have asked to borrow the journal instead of taking it without permission, but that didn't mean he should go out of his way to get it back in the middle of her puppet show. “Oh, come on, can't you wait until after the show?” She asked, taking a few steps towards him.
“Now why would I do that, when I can just take it now.” He already had the book in hand, and turned towards her with a carefree shrug and an almost creepy smile. Mabel lunged for the journal, but Dipper was too fast for her. He dodged, and pushed her into the railing. Mabel hit her head against the metal. Her ears rang, and her vision blurred for a moment, but she steadied herself and made another grab for the stupid book.
“C'mon, Dipper. Give it back.” She just needed it for a little while, it wasn't like she was taking it for good. But he seemed determined to keep it, and pushed her again. Only, this time he was sure to try and keep her down.
He held the journal up and away from her, and had one hand pressed against her collarbone, right up near her throat. She could feel the railing biting into the back of her neck. It hurt. This wasn't like how they usually fought, there was a disregard in his actions. A malice. He didn't care if he hurt her, and that scared Mabel. It wasn't like Dipper. It wasn't like Dipper at all. What had happened...? But she was having trouble thinking clearly, and couldn't put the pieces together.
“Dipper, why are you--You're hurting me.”
“Sorry, sister, but I've got big, big plans coming, and I can't have you getting in my way.”
"This isn't like you!"
She made one last grab for the journal, and this time she managed to grab hold of a few pages. But before she could do anything else, Dipper pulled her close, and whispered in her ear; "Well, then. Are you sure you know me as well as you think?"
He laughed as he shoved her away, and she heard the pages she was holding rip as she stumbled backward. She didn't have time to see what ones they were, though, because the shove sent her toppling backward, over the rail. She felt the air rushing past, and saw Dipper watching her. He didn't look scared, though, or worried. No, he was still smiling. Smiling, as she fell. Smiling, when she hit the stage with a crack. Smiling, as everything went dark.
Mindset: Mabel will freak out a little at first, when no one's around, because she thinks it was Dipper that killed her. It's something that will stick with her for a long time, because Dipper is her twin brother and the way he was acting before she fell was definitely unlike him. Not only that, but this will be the first time she's been so far from her brother for a long period of time, and it's going to take a lot of adapting. She'll fake it, though, and act like everything's okay. Because she doesn't really do despair well, and will do everything she can to cheer herself—and others—up.
